Blog and Portfolio of Jelmer Volbeda

Hi! My name is Jelmer Volbeda. I like to build stuff in any way and figure out how stuff works. This mainly includes mechanical design, software, electronics, but i also like to do woodworking, metal working, 3d printing and so much more. I like to take a shot at it all.

At adebloV you will find details on some of the bigger or more interesting project. I hope some of those post will be helpful to others working on similar stuff!

These are a series of projects from the old box. Things I build when i was around 16-17 years old, before starting with the technical study at the HBO Mechatronics.

Woodworking furniture and woodturning

marble machines

Metal casting and forging

Knife making

A DIY Camper unit, but extra compact. Started with a 2002 Daihatsu Hijet pick-up, a small japanese kei truck, although of the original european release with a larger engine and left-hand steering wheel.

Designed to be used as a Plasma cutter, uses two 3D-printed RV-reducers (detailed previously). Controlled by a Raspberry Pi PICO microcontroller running a custom fork of grblHAL to support the scara kinematics and plasma THC.

This is an older project (started in 2018) but is probably the most useful thing I build, and is therefore one of my favorite projects.

The lasercutter has a useable work area of 80x110cm. It uses a 50W laser tube that can cut upto roughly 10mm wood. I use it mainly to cut plywood parts, but it can also cut acrylic sheet, fabric, etc. It can also engrave things with text, paterns, or even images...
